Once Again, It's Time for A Dance Revolution

The world of dance is approaching the height of an Arts era that has not been experienced since the very fresh arrival of Mikhail Baryshnikov's beauty and brilliance on United States soil. Just reading about the times and the likes of him, Judith Jamison and even others before them; I become inspired all over again. It's really such a wonderful way to imagine dancing, in a world that has no choice but to welcome dance's force and impact, through the lens of brilliant artists who took a chance on themselves for the love of the art. It was brave! Those historic moments took the world, various industries alike, by storm. And for the first time ever, I am over the moon with excitement that a time such as that has come around again.  I never knew what I was waiting on. Beyond the work I've done, classes I've taken, shows I've performed in, there came a point where I wanted something to change. I wanted more. Then, suddenly, I knew something was brewing but couldn...

My Top 8 Dance Moments of 2022

How are we already at the year's end? I don't know about you but my year was action packed with many surprises at just about every turn. Alongside my spiritual walk, another very important part of my life proved to be as robust as it was rewarding. Read ahead as I name my Top 8 Dance Moments of 2022!! Not in any specific order, lets get into it!!

Number one on the list is training this Summer with my absolute favorite teacher of the Ballet technique, Erin Jaffe-Gardner. After having to be away from the ballet company for a year it was so great being back in class with Erin. She is the epitome of greatness. I have not met anyone as thorough and effortlessly capable of molding a dancer through knowledge and demonstration.

Number two on my list is entering the competition dance circuit. When that opportunity was presented to me I was amazed once I actually became apart.  Although I did not grow up competing, being a judge for competitions has inspired my personal artist statement and deepened my passion for dance education.

Third moment up is an exciting one. This year I witnessed one of my closest friends, Tyler Davilsaint, performing in one of the biggest dance productions of this year. Reframing the Narrative was held at The Kennedy Center and hosted three black ballet companies alongside other individual artists. Just knowing he performed on one of the world's most prestigious stages made me excited for his future.

Number four would have to be finally nailing my Italian fouettés. Need I say more! Sure, huge shoutout to the beautiful Mariclare Miranda and again, Erin Jaffe-Gardner.

Up next is number five and that is dancing the role of maid (1 of 3) during The Nutcracker. From rehearsals to digesting and executing our moods throughout the party it was always a fun time with Peyton and Carrington. Striding across the rehearsal space and stage couldn't have been more fulfilling.

Number six? Finding my perfect pointe shoes. Ya girl felt like cinderella at The Nutcracker ball in my new babies. Auuhhh!

Number seven is being a guest artist with Ballethnic Dance Company. This was the very first company I guested with post undergrad. Being back, and being there with a good friend, making a new friend all the way from Brazil and learning rigorous choreography were the hi lights. I enjoy being with Ballethnic because I know the rep will get me in even more shape then how I arrived, very, very quickly.

And for the eighth moment, celebrating with everyone else around the world, Jacqueline Greene's retirement from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Although this moment was a shocking one, it gave me a little time to reflect on her overall impact through dance. Me personally, I will never forget taking company class with her and the rest of the Ailey Company in January 2020. She is poised, strong and so sure. What an artist! What a mover!

Although this is an abbreviation of my 2022 dance experience, I hope this made you smile or inspired you in some way. What a ride!
