Where Diligence Dances Louder Than Perfection: The Shift That Builds Legacy

 The dedicated artist quickly becomes acquainted with difficulty, tough days and that sort of tug-of-war with mastery. I'm sure you've been there. It's those moment s y ou need to analyze after relaxing into the burning muscles and deep sigh because who is thinking about anything else while trying to stay alive in ballet? Since beginning my dance career, I have always been coached by incredible teachers.  Literally!  Dale Shields, Lydia Abarca-Mitchell, Erin Jaffe-Gardner and so on. While still a high school student, I learned to handle the demands and pressures of dance training to become a professional. Technique vs Entertainment

Tonight I have a think piece for you.


Has the the thought of being entertaining  crept up— overriding proper technique? It seems some manner of conversation exchanges being entertained for proper body alignment and execution. 


What do most people consider entertaining? Lots of turns. “Whacked out” legs? In bringing all genres of dance to the Instagram world I’ve found that even in a technique like Classical Ballet, the turns make me feel absolutely nothing if an emotional foundation was not built. Body intelligence and awareness of the work all come across on stage and through the dancer when they have understanding. 


What is there to understand?  The work, your respect for the craft, why you are choosing to dance, your body in connection with the choreography…
